Director of Student Success
Dr. Shannon A. Halbedel is a higher education professional with over 25 years of experience. She currently serves as the Director of Student Success in the College of Social Science at Michigan State University. She provides leadership across the college and acts as a liaison across the university in the design and implementation of student success initiatives. Dr. Halbedel also teaches undergraduate level courses both in-person and online. Dr. Halbedel’s tenure has led to a wide variety of experiences within higher education, including grant writing, program development, administration and management, student affairs, retention, student support services, academic advising, student success, student success coaching, marketing and communications, training, professional development, and college access.
Academic Support Specialist
Amir Franklin, M.S., serves as the Academic Specialist in the Office of Student Success at the College of Social Science at Michigan State University, where he passionately empowers students to succeed and overcome barriers to higher education. Amir works tirelessly to guide students through their academic and professional journeys. Moreover, he is an advocate for equity and inclusive practices within higher education, including making college more accessible to all students regardless of their background. Amir has extensive experience designing and implementing programming geared at preparing high school students for college and advising and coaching current college students through their journey. Amir holds a master’s degree in higher education, leadership, and administration from Capella University and a bachelor’s degree in hotel and restaurant management from Eastern Michigan University. Dedicated to the MSU community, Amir is committed to making a meaningful impact as a Spartan!
Graduate Assistant
Anapaola Almaguer is a recent graduate of Michigan State Univeristy, where she received her bachelors in Social Relations and Policy from James Madison College and a teaching certificate in Seconday Education Social Studies. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Student Affairs Administration in the College of Education at Michigan State Unviersity. Anapaola has extensive experience supporting undergraduate research initiatives and organizing major research forums. In her role as a Peer Advisor for the Pathways to Research Program, she guided students in exploring research interests, finding mentors, and securing positions, while also contributing to program development. Additionally, Anapaola has served as a student teacher, co-teaching 8th grade U.S. History, observing teaching practices, and proposing new classroom activities. Her professional experiences have reinforced her commitment to higher education programs focused on student success, development, and leadership.
